InSight was NASA's Mars landing mission, officially known as ‘Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport’. Launched in 2018, it studied the deep interior of the planet by detecting Marsquakes and tracking heat flows.
The lander touched down on Mars on 26 November 2018. Its main instruments included the SEIS seismometer, placed on the surface to detect Marsquakes, and the HP³ heat probe, designed to sink up to 5 metres deep.
The mission was extended until December 2022, when dust accumulated on the solar panels reduced power. It provided unprecedented data on the active geology of Mars before the end of its operations.
