BC, is remarkable for its apparent simplicity and architectural ingenuity. Contrary to what one might imagine, it is not richly decorated.

The interior consists of a network of stone corridors and chambers designed to protect the royal tomb.

The entrance is located on the north side, at a height of approximately 17 metres. It was originally hidden by white limestone cladding.

The descending corridor slopes downwards and leads to an unfinished underground chamber carved into the rock.

Its function remains unclear.

The ascending corridor branches off from the descending corridor.

It provides access to the upper parts of the pyramid.

The Grand Gallery is one of the most impressive spaces. It is approximately 47 m long and 8.5 m high.

Its corbelled architecture distributes the weight of the pyramid.

The Queen's Chamber is located in the centre of the pyramid.

Despite its name, it probably never housed a queen. It may have had a symbolic or ritual function.

The King's Chamber is built of Aswan granite.

It contains an empty sarcophagus, carved from a single block of stone. This is probably the true burial chamber of Khufu.

The relief chambers

Five small chambers above the King's Chamber.

These serve to relieve the pressure of millions of tonnes of stone. Graffiti by workers mentioning the name of Cheops has been found here.
